BTS Returns with 'ARIRANG' Album After Military Service
After nearly four years away from music, global K-pop sensation BTS is preparing their highly anticipated comeback. The seven-member group will release their fifth studio album, titled "ARIRANG," on March 20, 2026, according to an announcement from their management company BigHit Music.
What We Know About 'ARIRANG'
Details about the upcoming album remain limited, but the title "ARIRANG" holds special significance as it references a traditional Korean folk song that has become an unofficial anthem of Korea. The choice suggests the group may be exploring their cultural roots after their extended hiatus.
US retailer Target has announced an exclusive partnership for pre-orders, offering 10 different vinyl editions and two CD versions with collectible photocards starting Thursday at 9 p.m. Eastern time. However, album artwork has not yet been revealed.
The announcement follows a cryptic social media post from BigHit Music earlier this month confirming the March 20 comeback date, which aligns with previous hints about a spring 2026 release.
World Tour on the Horizon
BTS has also confirmed a massive world tour spanning 2026-2027, with over 70 dates across multiple continents. The tour will begin in South Korea in April 2026 and conclude in March 2027, marking their first headline performances since the 2021-22 Permission to Dance on Stage tour.
Military Service Completion
The extended hiatus was due to South Korea's mandatory military service requirements. All able-bodied men aged 18-28 must serve 18-21 months under the country's conscription system, designed as a deterrent against North Korean aggression.
Unlike athletes and classical musicians who can receive exemptions for enhancing national prestige, K-pop entertainers are not granted such privileges. The seven members strategically staggered their enlistments to allow for solo projects during the group's break.
Jin, the eldest member, enlisted first in 2022 and was discharged in June 2024. Suga was the last to complete his service in June 2025, serving as a social service agent due to a shoulder injury rather than in active military duty.
With all members now available, Filipino and international fans can look forward to BTS's return to the global stage, bringing their signature blend of pop, hip-hop, and Korean cultural elements back to audiences worldwide.
