The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) honored Carlo Biado, the newly-crowned two-time World Pool Championship (WPC) 9-ball champion, in a special ceremony held at the PhilSports Complex in Pasig on Friday. The 41-year-old athlete made history by becoming the first Filipino to secure two world titles in the prestigious tournament.
Historic Achievement in Philippine Sports
Biado, who first claimed victory in 2017, successfully recaptured the championship by defeating Fedor Gorst in a thrilling 15-13 final match in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia last week. This remarkable achievement adds to the growing list of Filipino sporting accomplishments that continue to inspire the nation.
Legendary Gathering of Pool Champions
The recognition ceremony was graced by Filipino pool legends including Efren "Bata" Reyes (1999 champion), Francisco "Django" Bustamante (2010 champion), and recent Women's World 10-Ball champion Chezka Centeno. The presence of local pool godfather Aristeo 'Putch' Puyat further elevated the significance of the event, highlighting the continued excellence of Filipino athletes on the global stage.
PSC's Community Initiative
In recognition of Biado's achievement, the PSC announced a significant community contribution. "To honor Carlo's remarkable achievement, the PSC is donating a complete and premium billiard set under Carlo's name to his chosen community," the commission stated in their official social media announcement. This initiative aims to inspire future champions and promote sporting excellence across the Philippines.

The inaugural Florida Open, scheduled for August 5-10 at the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, offers a $200,000 prize fund with $40,000 (over P2.2 million) for the champion. Following this, he will compete in the US Open from August 18-23 at Harrah's Resort, Atlantic City, which features a substantial $500,000 prize fund, with the winner set to receive $100,000 (approximately P5.7 million).
