Young athletes prepare for IRONKIDS Philippines competition at Dusit Thani Mactan beachfront

In a significant boost to youth athletics, over 600 young athletes aged 6-15 are set to participate in the RLC Residences IRONKIDS event this Saturday, marking a remarkable prelude to the IRONMAN 70.3 Lapu-Lapu presented by Megaworld. This turnout represents more than double last year's participation, showcasing the growing interest in multisport activities among Filipino youth.

Record-Breaking Youth Participation

The event, taking place at the Beachfront, Dusit Thani, Mactan, demonstrates a growing commitment to youth sports development, similar to other successful sporting initiatives across the Philippines. The competition features both swim-run and run-only events across various age categories: 6-8, 9-10, 11-12, and 13-15 years.

Competition Format and Distances

  • 6-8 years: 100m swim, 1km run
  • 9-10 years: 150m swim, 1.5km run
  • 11-12 years: 200m swim, 1.5km run
  • 13-15 years: 250m swim, 2km run

Community Impact and Development

Princess Galura, president of Sunrise Events, Inc., emphasizes how the event aligns with broader national initiatives for youth development, similar to recent community development projects in metropolitan areas. The program has been particularly impactful in Cebu, serving as a catalyst for future sports careers.

"The IRONKIDS has been making a positive mark on Cebu's youth for the past decade, serving as a springboard for future sports careers while promoting an active, healthy lifestyle," said Galura.

Growing Partnership and Support

The event's success reflects the increasing focus on youth development and security, complementing other national initiatives like enhanced youth protection measures across the country. RLC Residences' partnership has been crucial in expanding the program's reach, with participation growing from 200 athletes in Palawan to the current 600+ in Lapu-Lapu.
