The provincial government of Laguna is launching an ambitious initiative to expand its local bamboo industry, projecting annual revenues exceeding P100 million through technological innovation and sustainable development practices.
Strategic Development and Digital Integration
In a move aligned with the country's broader economic transformation goals, Laguna's government is strengthening its partnership with the Department of Science and Technology while working to institutionalize the industry through new legislation.
"The ordinance aims to help the industry from the grassroots level identify areas where to plant bamboo, provide training, facilitate technology transfer and pique the interest of the youth," explained Laguna board member Karla Monica Adajar-Lajara during Tuesday's Bamboo Day celebration at the provincial capitol.
Manufacturing and Production Hubs
The province's Bamboo Industry Development Council has identified key production zones:
- Furniture manufacturing in Majayjay, Paete, and Sta. Cruz
- Handicraft production in Calamba, Los Baños, and San Pablo
- Additional processing centers in Mabitac, Magdalena, and Victoria
10-Year Development Roadmap
The Sangguniang Panlalawigan has unveiled a comprehensive decade-long plan, developed in collaboration with over 20 stakeholders. This initiative mirrors the nation's push for economic modernization and sustainable growth.
Short-term Goals (2025-2029)
- Increased funding for research and development
- Enhanced capacity building for producers and processors
- Incentive programs for sustainable technology adoption
Long-term Vision (2030-2033)
The province aims to establish strategic bamboo nurseries and plantations while creating expansion opportunities for enterprises. This sustainable approach aligns with broader environmental resilience initiatives across the region.
