MANDAUE CITY -- Col. Abubakar Udang Mangelen Jr. has officially assumed leadership of the Cebu Police Provincial Office (CPPO), replacing Col. Christopher Bermudez in a ceremony that signals continued commitment to maintaining peace and order in the region.
Leadership Transition and Vision
The turnover ceremony, held on September 5 at the Police Regional Office Central Visayas (PRO-7), was presided over by BGen. Dionisio Bartolome Jr., deputy regional director for administration. Mangelen, in his inaugural address, emphasized the pillars of his leadership: integrity, discipline, and professionalism, echoing the nationwide push for police reform and anti-corruption measures.
Impressive Anti-Crime Operations
Under Bermudez's brief but impactful 59-day tenure, the CPPO demonstrated remarkable achievements in maintaining public order and security across Cebu. Key accomplishments include:
- 368 anti-drug operations resulting in 536 arrests
- Confiscation of 5,609.64 grams of shabu valued at P31.3 million
- 305 operations against wanted persons, leading to 297 arrests
- 162 operations targeting loose firearms
- 194 anti-illegal gambling operations
Infrastructure and Facility Improvements
The CPPO headquarters underwent significant upgrades during Bermudez's leadership, including a renovated lobby, enhanced gym facilities, and a new Command Center. These improvements align with President Marcos's broader initiatives for institutional enhancement across government agencies.
Provincial Government Support
Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro praised Bermudez's leadership while extending full support to incoming chief Mangelen. The governor emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between local government and law enforcement to maintain peace and order in the province.
