Weather System Threatens Multiple Philippine Regions
MANILA - The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued warnings Sunday as a low-pressure area (LPA) and easterlies threaten to bring significant rainfall across various parts of the country, raising concerns about potential flooding and landslides.
According to PAGASA's 4 a.m. bulletin, the LPA was located in Castilla, Sorsogon as of 3 a.m., posing immediate risks to several regions. This weather system follows recent infrastructure challenges caused by similar weather disturbances in Luzon.
Areas Under Close Monitoring
The following regions are expected to experience scattered rains and thunderstorms:
- Metro Manila
- Visayas
- Central Luzon
- Calabarzon
- Mimaropa
- Bicol Region
These weather conditions have prompted authorities to enhance their disaster preparedness measures, particularly in areas prone to natural calamities.
Regional Weather Outlook
The rest of Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to easterlies. Meanwhile, Mindanao can expect partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms.
This weather system comes at a time when the Philippines is strengthening its flood control infrastructure amid increasing climate challenges.
Maritime Conditions
PAGASA reports that Southern Luzon and the rest of Luzon will experience light to moderate winds with slightly moderate coastal waters. Similar conditions are expected across other parts of the country, with light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas prevailing.
