Gilgeous-Alexander Extends Historic Streak as Thunder Dominate Wolves
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander maintained his record-breaking 20-point scoring streak as the Oklahoma City Thunder secured their eighth consecutive victory with a commanding 116-103 triumph over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday in Los Angeles.
The reigning NBA Most Valuable Player, who recently surpassed Wilt Chamberlain's 63-year-old record for consecutive games scoring 20 points or more, finished with 20 points, 10 assists and three rebounds. This marked his 128th straight game reaching the 20-point milestone, though he made it dramatic by scoring 10 of those points in the final quarter.
Despite struggling with shooting accuracy throughout most of the contest, connecting on just 7-of-22 field goal attempts, Gilgeous-Alexander received crucial support from Oklahoma City's deep bench, which contributed an impressive 61 points to the victory.
"At the end of the day it's basketball," Gilgeous-Alexander reflected on his challenging shooting night. "I went out there with the same aggression I do every night. More shots didn't fall tonight than do, and usually that's not the case."
Isaiah Joe provided 20 points off the bench while Alex Caruso added 17, demonstrating the Thunder's remarkable depth that has propelled them to the top of the Western Conference standings.
Thunder Extend Conference Lead
The victory strengthened Oklahoma City's position atop the Western Conference with a stellar 53-15 record, maintaining a comfortable three-and-a-half game advantage over the second-placed San Antonio Spurs at 49-18.
Minnesota, despite strong performances from Julius Randle (32 points), Anthony Edwards (19 points), and bench contributor Ayo Dosunmu (18 points), fell to 41-27 and remained in sixth place in the competitive Western Conference.
The Timberwolves had previously won two of their three encounters with Oklahoma City this season and held a 53-47 halftime lead. However, the defending NBA champions responded with a decisive 33-23 third quarter surge before outscoring Minnesota by nine points in the final period.
Eastern Conference Action
In other notable results, the Toronto Raptors delivered a stunning 119-108 upset victory over Eastern Conference leaders Detroit. Brandon Ingram led Toronto with 34 points while Jakob Poeltl contributed 21 points and 18 rebounds for the Raptors, who improved to 38-29.
The Pistons, despite Cade Cunningham's 33 points and nine assists, saw their three-game winning streak end as they fell to 48-19.
Meanwhile, top NBA Draft pick Cooper Flagg showcased his potential with 27 points and 10 assists, leading Dallas to a 130-120 victory over Cleveland. The Cavaliers, powered by Donovan Mitchell's 26 points and 11 rebounds, dropped to 41-27.
Giannis Antetokounmpo dominated with 31 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists as Milwaukee defeated Indiana 134-123, snapping a four-game losing streak while extending the Pacers' misery to 13 consecutive defeats.
